Talc powder

Possible additives to maximize the extrusion process

Talc powder as a functional additive in plastic extrusion

Talc powder is a mineral filler widely used in plastic extrusion formulations, thanks to its heat resistance, rigidity, dimensional stability and improved surface finish properties. Talc's main purpose is to increase the compound's rigidity and thermal stability, while helping to contain formulation costs.
Bausano does not sell talc or additives directly, but offers clients well-established experience in designing compounding lines and processing filled materials, supporting them in identifying the most effective formulation, including the type and percentage of talc to use.

Talc is particularly suitable for polymers such as PP, PE, PVC and ABS, where it helps improve thermal stability, processability and resistance to deformation.
Thanks to continuous technical support, the client achieves optimal filler distribution, with compound homogeneity, consistent melt quality and maximum operational efficiency of the extrusion line.

Compatibility, dosage and processing challenges with talc

The choice of talc type (fine, ultra-fine, treated or natural) and the ideal concentration varies depending on the polymer used, the required properties of the finished product and the plant configuration.
In general, talc content can range between 10% and 40% by weight, but it is essential to calibrate the dosage to avoid issues such as poor dispersion, abrasion of mechanical components or alterations in the material's melt flow index (MFI).
Bausano extrusion lines make it possible to efficiently process highly filled materials, thanks to dedicated screw geometries, degassing systems and advanced thermal management.
The client is supported in selecting additives and fine-tuning the formulation, to ensure process stability, production consistency and optimized plant yield.

Alternatives to talc and the advantages of the Bausano approach

Besides talc, several valid alternatives exist depending on application needs: calcium carbonate, silica, wollastonite, natural fibers or glass fibers, each with specific characteristics in terms of rigidity, weight, cost and recyclability.
While not supplying these materials directly, Bausano offers clients complete technical support in evaluating the most suitable alternatives, with a focus on eco-design and environmental sustainability.
Bausano extrusion lines are compatible with all major types of mineral fillers and reinforcements, and help minimize consumption thanks to solutions such as the induction heating system and the Multidrive System.
With over 80 years of experience and an in-house R&D department, Bausano positions itself as a technology partner for those seeking reliable and versatile plants, capable of efficiently processing complex formulations, with complete technical support from design to production.
